Option 1: "Oh! I like that! That is really different."
-or-
Option 2: "Oh! That is different...I've never heard that." With a little different tone.
SO...........
I decided that I would clarify and explain a little bit about where we got the name Brig for those few people who read our blog.
About 11 1/2 weeks ago I had an ultrasound and our little guy was very open in sharing the fact that he was indeed a boy. Yea! We finally knew what we would be having- but then I had one thought flash into my mind. Great, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO NAME THIS KID!!!! For the remainder of my pregnancy I wondered and worried and waited for some perfect name to make itself known.
One day (actually one day before we had our ultrasound), while driving in the car with Cory's family, his little sister said- what about Brigham? I wasn't so sure about it but in response said...then we could call him Brig for short (the nickname thing was a BIG deal to us). Then we moved on to other name ideas.
The next day, after we found out we were having a boy we got our families together and were playing a game where everyone suggested a name. Cory's wise father chose Brig as his name. Everyone stopped when he said it and we all decided we kind of liked it! But nothing was set in stone.
As the day came closer we were getting a little stressed about what we would call him and I was chatting with my parents Bishop, told him the name, and he said "Oh, like short for Brigham..." he then proceeded to tell me why that would be a great name. He had read a book about Brigham Young and was just amazed by the kind of man he was. He said he was a phenominal leader with exceptional integrity. He was never afraid to stand up for what he believed was right, often going against the grain, and had a very strong will. Cory and I decided those were all pretty admirable qualities and after hearing a few more stories about this prophet we decided that we liked the name even more.
Our first night in the hospital we still were not completely decided and as I was holding him I tried a couple other names out on him but when it came right down to it, we decided...
Brig
...with one G, not two-because it is simple-derived from Brigham Young- and although we realize that the common noun form is part of a ship, this proper noun has nothing to do with Pirates, Brig.
And it fits him perfectly!

I love his name! I get lots of "What?" with the name Jiles. He is so cute and it seems like he came at a good time, yeah? You still got to go to your concert (which looks like it was awesome!). :) I think that we might see you tonight picking huckleberries???
