Parallel to Life...

A couple days after Thanksgiving, most of the Walker family went on a little hike.  Yes, even this 9 month pregnant lady! When I say "little" that word really means that it was pretty intense to the top of the Little Butte.  It wasn't really a walk in the park.  BUT I LOVED IT!

I decided to do a little tribute to hiking because I love how it parallels life so much.

Every time I go on a hike I wonder why I like this activity or if it is going to be worth it at all.  I have to constantly remind myself (and usually my kids at some point) that THIS IS FUN!

But then, when you get to the top- it feels so great! I love looking at the great views and KNOWING that it was worth it and it was so fun.

It is totally worth the racing heart and the sore legs just for the sense of accomplishment and the literal high that only comes from looking over some beautiful vista.

So it goes with life.

Sometimes I think we have to remind ourselves of the joy IN the journey and have the faith that all the "hard" is worth it.

And then feel the overwhelming sense of joy and success that comes from sticking it out and making it to the top!

Family Home Evening Thoughts and Chairs

Growing up Cory's family had little chairs that they used for Family Night and scriptures and such...so for the last family reunion, Grandma & Grandpa made one for each grandchild.  We FINALLY got ours painted.  They are so fun!

Our one rule for family night is that you have to sit on your chair the whole time (unless we are doing some activity or singing the snowman song!).  We believe that teaching reverence starts at home...so if we want the kids to be reverent during church and other special occasions...we better practice at home!  Brig does really well and having these really cute chairs helps!

So we have been trying to be better about doing family home evening every Monday night...something our church really encourages.  And I sure love it- I love having those Monday nights to do something fun and really get to teach something with some substance to Brig...like how to listen and obey like Nephi, or how to do chores, how to smile at people (something our shy little BMan has to work on here and there) and that we are all children of God.  But I really want it to be something that the kids (eventually) enjoy and look forward to.

So...any thoughts? What are some ways that we can make this wonderful time even better? Anyone?
