Jase's Blessing...

This sweet boy was given a name and a blessing on Sunday, February 2, 2014.
The name: Jase Henry Walker
The priesthood holders that helped: His dad, Grandpa Madsen, Grandpa Walker, Uncle Ross and his Great Grandpa Walker.

The blessing:
He was blessed to be strong and healthy,

a friend to his brother and sister,

a calm and leveling influence to his family,

a support to his mother,

to be a righteous father and husband and to have a strong testimony.

Jase is such a blessing to each of us! He already brings so much happiness to our family.  I am so grateful for the joy that each additional member brings to our family and I am ever so grateful for the priesthood and how Cory honors it and blesses our lives through it.

Boise Temple Dedication...

Cory & I got to attend the Boise Temple Dedication. It was a really neat opportunity because the Prophet, President Monson, would be the one dedicating it. What a neat thing to be in the most sacred place on earth with the leader of our church. We felt blessed. We were able to sit in the sealing room and when the prophet walked by he peeked his head in and made a few silly comments to some of the kids that were standing in the front of the room.  I am so grateful for our prophet and his faithfulness. I know that he is guided and inspired by our Heavenly Father and that He is truly the head of this great church. I know that the temple is a holy place and I am so grateful that Cory and I were sealed there for time and all eternity.

Take Two...

So we tried the whole potty training thing.  Again.
Several months ago we tried it for the first time using the "3 Day Method." And it wasn't pretty.  I turned into a maniac-pycho mom! I was a tad unprepared!  There were accidents all over and I was counting the minutes to bedtime- I felt like there was very little progress and Brig was begging to go back to diapers.  After about 5 days of misery and a self-debate...I decided to stop and try again later.  I felt awful! I totally felt like I was a failure of a potty-training mommy! I knew that Brig was smart enough and I thought I was capable...but it was a no-go.  Brig was too stubborn and was obviously not really ready and I wasn't as ready as I needed to be either.

So starting last Wednesday we gave it a second go...
We used the same method...I really like the concepts...but we both knew what to expect a little more.

During that week, we also took Brig to the dentist and he had to have 2 fillings. Seriously! So, we decided that sugar was probably not the best incentive since this little boy inherited his mama's (and grandmas') sweet tooth! So we did some stickers...a sticker chart to be exact...

After so many stickers, he would get some kind of reward... after the first two rewards, he caught on and really liked it.  He was then telling me he had to go potty a lot more and would try his hardest so he could get one step closer to the prize!  It really helped.

Another thing that I found really helped was to give him A TON of fluids.  The more he drank...the more opportunities we had to practice.  Possibly more accidents too, but much more opportunity and that was great!
We still have a few accidents- especially if we are out and about and he gets distracted.  But he is doing SO well!  I am so proud of him...and (as evident in the picture above) he is pretty proud of himself.
I wish that everyone we know could see him in his super cute little big boy undies...but I think I best not post that on the public blog;) However...he did realize that they also double as a great option to wear when he wants to go swimming in the little ditch by our house....so if you drive by this summer- you might get a peek anyways!  So cute!

Here is his sticker chart...I thought I would explain the rewards because it says a lot about some of the things Brig loves....
The first 2 lines are "Huckle." He LOVES watching a show on Netflix called Busytown Mysteries.  It is clean, sweet and he likes it entirely too much.  So we have tried to cut back- it made for a great incentive.
The next line was supposed to be a toy from the Dollar Store...but he thought it meant getting to play baseball...so we went with that.
The next line is getting to go see the cows.  He loves Farms!
McDonalds.  This doesn't need much explaining...except this boy loves his "Trench Tries"
The last is a bike that is at his grandma's that he gets to bring home.
The sticker chart worked great- I just don't really know what to do now that it is full...do I just stop with incentives or what? I better figure this out soon!!!!

The New Temple...Close to Home

The new Meridian, Idaho LDS Temple will certainly be closer for us but it is literally right next to the home of Cory's uncle and where my mother-in-law grew up! The location was just announced yesterday and we are pretty excited!   Here is a little more info...

AuntT

This is Aunt Tay...
She recently got called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Figi, Suva Mission.  It's gonna look something like this...I know...we are jealous too!
Aunt T and Brig have become really close in the past couple months. She is pretty fun!
So Brig, Ellie & I tagged along with my parents and Sydney to drop Taylor off at the MTC.  We wanted to make it a trip so we stopped at the "This is the Place" Park in Salt Lake.
We got to ride a train and go for a tour of the old town.
Brig thought it was pretty fun...but I think he would have had this happy look on his face no matter what we did- he is quite spoiled with love by his aunts.
And he got to ride a horse! He was so brave...and so was mom;) just teasing...
Papa made friends with the pot belly pigs...they followed him around the petting zoo!
There were lots of animals to see and pet.
It was really nice to spend so much time with her before she left.
Brig fed the animals some "big hay."
Aunt T is so much fun! We are really going to miss her!

We said our teary-eyed goodbyes in the hotel that morning so when we went to drop her off- we took some pictures and gave more hugs- but there weren't any tears! It was a happy time that Taylor has preparing for for a long time.

She is such a great example to us and is going to be an incredible missionary!

 And there she goes...
One last hoorah! We love you Taylor- see you in 18 months!
As we drove away Brig said..."I go on my mission right now!"
He is getting ready and excited thanks to the example of so many family members...

Grandpa Madsen- Brussels/Belgium/France

Wicked is Happiness

Let me tell you a little story.... six years ago I bought a book by Gregory McGuire..."Wicked" (I had to stop reading it because the book is not the cleanest thing I have ever read).  In this book were pictures of the musical.  I became curious.  Then I became obsessed.  I bought the soundtrack, pressed anyone who had ever attended for information on it, listened to the soundtrack, made my sisters get hooked on the wonderful music, and dreamed of the day I would attend the actual musical itself.

Four years later....

WICKED WAS COMING TO SALT LAKE CITY!!!
I would surely be able to attend...so I marked my calendar for the very day the tickets went on sale and when the day arrived I called bright and early...and called...and waited...and called...and called.  For two hours the lines were busy and then finally...at 10:00 am I GOT THROUGH!!! Only to hear that the tickets had been sold out! Sad day.

Two years later...

WICKED CAME.  I SAW.  I LOVED!

My entire family (sans Brig) went and saw this wonderful play. It was so great and incredible to finally see more than what I envisioned in my head from hearing the songs.  I definitely reccomend it to anyone who is even slightly interested in musicals.

Kenny Chesney and Wicked....I am a happy girl ;)

Brig's Blessing

Brig was blessed on Sunday. It was really nice and SO great to have so much family support. We have some pretty fun, great, loving, crazy family!!!! We really appreciate it. The blessing was really nice. Brig's little outfit was made by a family friend. It was really nice of her to go to all that work! Brig did a great job- we were really worried he was going to cry while he was being blessed- but we made it through. By the end of the day (when the picture was taken...) he was ready to be out of his fancy little outfit and just in some regular old clothes...he is his dad's son!
