Play All Day-- Play A Little Longer...

Brig has never really been the best sleeper...Elle, has definitely been better- she is still not
completely-every-night-all-the-way-consistently sleeping through the night...but she is doing better. We have had quite a tricky time recently with Brig because he seems to be in between needing naps and not needing them- so here is what ends up happening...
If he does not get a nap we can ususally get him in bed somewhere between 8 and 9...phew...that was easy...not really...because you see, sometimes... between the hours of 4 to 7 pm he starts to nod off during dinner or we are quarantined to our house because any amount of driving will result in a 15 min. power nap AND THEN....

he is not tired AT ALL when bedtime rolls around!  So he will come walk into our bedroom and so very politely tell us he isn't tired and ask if he can stay in our bed for a while.  Well, we shouldn't let him if you consult any parenting book (I am guessing) but he is just so stinkin cute!
We crumble everytime!
So then he lays between Cory and I and we watch a mommy and daddy show (don't worry...we try to keep swearing stuff & gory stuff & lovey-dovey stuff non-existent when this happens)
The rules: if he talks or plays then he has to go back to his bed....
As a result...this has turned into some pretty sweet time because he just cuddles and will once in a while say a really sweet comment.  It particularly melts Cory.
(It really turns into a party when Elle decides that after going to bed at 8:30 and taking an hour "nap," that she wants in on the fun...Oh Boy! Craziness.)
He will then tell us he is tired and we put him back in his bed.
More often than not...this results in a very late bedtime...so we try to keep these "special" little moments to a minimum...because let's face it...as sweet as he is - as far as mom's are concerned...bedtime is sacred time!

(this is an old picture I had on my phone...but it is kind of what it looks like late at night...except usually my hair is a bit less kept and we are wearing pajamas)

  1. nah, I think you guys are great parents! I don't think parenting books are always the best anyway. I think there are good "principles" to parenting, but no perfect ways. :) your kids are cute, healthy, and happy! And eventually they sleep through the night...so I have heard. :)

  2. If i followed everything that parenting books said, i would go insane. I read somewhere that there is a certain number of words we are supposed to say to our children each day. Really? What a joke. I know you are an awesome mom.
